Learning Hiragana and Katakana can be difficult. The way I learned them was by means of a Rorschach test. By looking at the characters, like a inkblot, what do you see? You can definitely use this to help you study and remember Hiragana, Katakana, and possibly Kanji. I myself am working on Kanji. That being said, there are a lot of software to assist with learning Japanese. JQ: Beautiful Japan isn't a complex learning aid. I did find having multiple choice at the bottom of the screen helps. The game does not shuffle or mix in both Hiragana and Katakana together for challenge. That would be a great added feature. Least for me, I retained what I learned by repetition, the same characters, order of sequence, and location of the correct answer at the bottom of the screen. For some weird reason, this style of teaching works! I found it a good learning tool, even though its is very basic and short with no features to speak of.If you have never seen Hiragana or Katakana, and you play this, you may be at a loss for a while until you start to become familiar with the material. I only paid $.50 for this game. Don't have high expectations as in game play. If you work with it, you might be surprised you actually learned something new.
